Red lath preset tuning, round 3: fine matrix grain, crisper flecks, fewer white crystals (2026-10-13)
Pink fixed at the preset's. Variants tune_z1-tune_z4 in lath_tune_materials.py, each adding one change to the previous one; the preset itself is unchanged. Rendered locally (Metal), 1024 px.
Top: photo region (200, 1000)-(1400, 2200) | full renders. Bottom: photo crop (350, 650)-(950, 1250) | render center, 2x zoom. Columns: photo | current preset | y1 (round 2) | z1: y1 with the preset's fine matrix grain sizes | z2: + crisper flecks (softness 0.03) | z3: + fewer, smaller, warm light-gray white crystals | z4: + a little granular warm light gray in the matrix.
z1: fine crisp matrix grain is back without the black/white speckle (darkest band 4.8%, photo 4.4%). But the matrix is now a uniform fine salt-and-pepper everywhere; the photo's matrix gathers into larger charcoal patches and separate granular light-gray patches.
z2: fleck softness 0.03 is hardly distinguishable from 0.06 at this size.
z3: fewer, smaller, warmer white crystals bring the mid-dark band closest to the photo (10.5% vs 12.3%), but the brightest band falls to 2.8% (photo 10.4%): the white crystals were most of the render's brightest pixels, and the mid band overshoots (37% vs 26%).
z4: the granular light grains hardly show at this share.
